Weiss Associates Environmental Project Engineer Anja Verce will be presenting a poster on the topic of "Using Modified Stiff Diagrams and 1,1-DCA as Conservative Tracer to Support Site Closure” at Battelle's 11th International Conference on Remediation of Chlorinated and Recalcitrant Compounds to be held in April.
The presentation, co-authored by Trish Eliasson, PE, and Thomas Fojut, PE, PG, CHG, also of Weiss Associates, describes how chemical “fingerprinting” was accomplished by combining modified Stiff diagrams with traditional hydrogeologic analyses to characterize a volatile organic compound plume affected by a former tire and auto maintenance shop located in California. The modified Stiff diagrams provided a simple yet powerful technique to differentiate among multiple sources of similar contaminants in groundwater near the Site, and the results supported finalizing Site closure under both the California State Water Resource Control Board Low-Threat UST Closure Policy (LTCP) for petroleum related contaminants, and the Regional Water Quality Control Board’s Assessment Tool for Closure of Low-Threat Chlorinated Solvent Sites.
The poster and investigation results will be presented on April 9 from 4:30 to 6:30 at the 2018 Battelle Conference in Palm Springs.
